One hair at a time

This weekend I will be working with Neograft, demonstrating to physicians the benefits that mono-follicular hair transplantation can bring to thier practice.

Over the years there have been great advances in the field of hair transplantation. The days of having strip grafts are not gone but now there is another option. Neograft works by transplanting one hair at time. Each hair is taken individually, from an area that has more dense growth, and then in harvested or prepared for… Continue

I recently read about a presentation a fellow MD is making, Dr. Henry Mentz, regarding an advancement in stem cell collection and use which he has been performing. The ground breaking research and news is something very important to my field of medicine and will likely impact other fields as well (in a very positive way). This new method of collecting, seperating and using stem cells for facial plastic surgery and fat grafting will be very beneficial to patients. Fat grafting not only helps… Continue

Your Photo Opp!

Having a surgical or non-surgical experience includes before and after photography. We can't remain objective and see the difference in face or body as we see ourselves everyday. The healing process can take time and sometimes the results can happen over a period of weeks or months. That's why we like to have before and after photos to show your progress and the results of your procedure.

Today we have many options for photography but by far the most interesting is the 3D capibilities of… Continue

Spot the difference

Clear, even toned skin isn't just a concern for teens, adult acne is a common condition. Large pores, pimples, blackheads and cysts can make even the most mature skins a challenge to treat. Of course, good diet, lots of water and a healthy lifestyle will help your skin look it's best, you have to go beyond this and enter the world of skincare. We have many options to treat problem skin, starting with simple, non- invasive, blue light. Blue light targets these areas by reducing bacteria on the… Continue

Healthy vs Unhealthy

Your skin; it covers all of vital organs, muscles and bones but how we care for our largest organ is sometimes a forgotten last step in our daily routine. The signs of unhealthy skin include dehydration, lack of exercise, smoking, poor diet and sun exposure. Dehydration presents itself in the skin with fine lines and flat, dull skin colour. Drinking plenty of water and using a moisturizer on damp skin will both help combat this condition. Exercise and poor diet effect your skin because you need… Continue

The yummy mummy make-over

I've done many TV Segments about this hot topic. Mom's everywhere want to look their best. They want to look like they did before the kids, before their bodies changed. Unfortunately, after taking care of the kids all day, running errands, preparing all the meals and juggling the many demands of motherhood, these super moms forget about one person; themselves. It's easy to get caught up in being a home manager, a life manager and a family manager, but what about you? The easiest and fastest way… Continue

How to get your body back after weight-loss

It's taken you months and maybe even years to lose the weight you wanted and reach your goal. You stand on the scale and the number brings a smile to your face but the mirror tells a different story. You abdomen skin sags, your thighs have loose skin giggling around, your arms are wiggly and your breasts are deflated. Now what? Many patients who experience massive weight-loss through either surgical means or time, are fighting this battle and have not idea how many solutions we have to these… Continue

Holiday weekend

This weekend I'll be in Chicago holding a lecture for Cynosure on the topic of SmartLipo, Fractional CO2 and Cellulaser. I've also recently been writing a chapter in a new book which is soon to be released. With a hectic travel schedule, books and papers to write, a busy surgical practice, and a family of six kids I rarely have time for reflection. I often find myself advising patients to take time for themselves whether that is in one of my medical spas or simply taking some downtime to read… Continue

Advances in medicine

Today, typing this blog from my iPad as I enjoy my morning coffee, I am reminded of the news of Steve Jobs early passing. Being a man of similar age with young children, this news rings home to me. With all our advances in medicine we still can't beat cancer.

Mr. Jobs was at the forefront of advances in computers. He revolutionized an entire industry and touched many other industries and changed them in ways that no one could have imagined. My industry, medicine and cosmetic plastic… Continue

Feet first

Let's talk about feet. They support us and they move us. How can we show appreciation to this much ignored part of our body. I know a few of you are screaming "pedicure" but I am going beyond a little buff and polish. I'm digging into my cosmetic physician tool kit to discuss the options you have in my world. A visit to your local dermatologist, cosmetic physician or cosmetic plastic surgeon can help you control foot odors and sweat. How? Neurotoxin injections help to control sweating in the… Continue

Mirror mirror on the wall who is the fairest of them all

Speaking of fairest, have you been using your SPF lately? I know a lot of patients that pack away more than just their summer clothes, they put their sunscreen on the shelf and leave it there until next year or their winter vacation down south. It's just as important to "suit up" with sunscreen in the fall, winter and spring. UV rays are not taking a break while the leaves and snow fall. According to the Skin Cancer Association, one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime;… Continue

A salty situation

While travelling in Europe I have noticed how popular salt rooms are. Salt has been used for centuries to detoxify, purify and relax our skin and bodies but how do these "salty escapes" help us? Now surfacing in the US, these treatments help us because salt is antibacterial and anti-imfammitory. The theory behind salt rooms is to inhale the salty air which then enters the body through the lungs and begins to detoxify and purify us from the inside out. That all said, there isn't much use in a… Continue

Rejuvenate your body overnight

Want to get the most out of your beauty routine, use your resting hours. The hours you spend in bed are the best time for your body to rejuvenate and replenish. Retinols work best at night for cell turnover and as you sleep the retinol will assist your fibroblasts to increase activity (fibroblasts are the little factories that produce collagen and elastin in our bodies). Antioxidants should be used at night because the sunlight breaks down their structure before they have a chance to be… Continue
